New food safety detector can detect melamine in two minutes
China's first ion mobility spectrometer for on-site rapid detection of food safety was unveiled at the Chongqing Food Festival on the 28th. According to reports, this instrument, which is only the size of a photocopier, can detect more than 20 kinds of substances such as melamine that are strictly prohibited by national regulations from artificially adding to fruits, vegetables, meat and other foods within two minutes.
At the food festival site, Ma Jun, head of the research and development of the ion mobility spectrometer, demonstrated to the reporter how to use the instrument. He casually took a small piece of fresh beef from the sales counter and put some of it into the warehouse of the machine. The interface of the machine showed the ion mobility spectrum of the piece of beef. Almost at the same time, it also showed the result obtained after the computer automatically completed the comparison with the standard map: "The goods you tested meet the inspection standards and relevant standards of the Ministry of Agriculture".
The instrument is developed and produced by Wuhan Si Gan Technology Co., Ltd., which gasifies and ionizes chemical substances to obtain an ion mobility spectrum, and then compares the mobility spectrum with the standard spectrum determined by the agricultural department to quickly detect the presence of pesticide residues, veterinary drug residues, clenbuterol, melamine, etc. in the food to be inspected.
It is understood that at present, most of the food safety testing equipment in China is of laboratory application level, which is not only expensive, but also needs to be pretreated in hours or even more than ten hours for almost all items submitted for inspection. This decision is difficult to widely used in food production, circulation, sales site. The lack of detection means has become one of the important reasons for the frequent occurrence of food safety accidents.
Zhang Wei, chairman of Wuhan Si Gan Technology Co., Ltd., said that the ion mobility spectrometer has the advantages in this respect: small size, light weight, can use ordinary power supply to work under atmospheric pressure, does not need to pre-process the items submitted for inspection, and the total detection time is shortened to less than two minutes.
In addition, the on-site rapid detection function of ion mobility spectrometer makes it possible for food enterprises to monitor the whole process of production. He said that the ion mobility spectrometer is supplemented by two-dimensional barcode automatic recognition technology and cloud computing technology to build a full-process food safety monitoring and real-time traceability system covering the whole society, in order to seek a fundamental solution to food safety problems.
